Is it Safe to Get Married in the Bahamas?

water1

There was a report on Yahoo! News recently that indicated many Caribbean island cruise ports may be unsafe to visit. Because of this story there has definitely been an increase in chatter about whether or not it’s safe to visit, let alone get married in the Bahamas. The answer is probably more complicated than you would like it to be.

As it stands right now, there are no real threats to security to visitors of the Bahamas according to the US Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs. However, this is not to say there are never threats to one’s safety when visiting. It’s no secret that many countries believe that the wealthier nations such as the U.S. and the U.K. believe that their tourists are wealthy too and that unsavory characters are constantly looking to cash in on that wealth. Then again, there are thieves right here in the United States plotting big scores all the time. If safety is a concern for you, there are a few things you can do to diminish the chances anything bad will happen during your destination wedding.

First, only book your travel with a reputable travel agency like Elite Travel. We can warn you in advance of any problems that may be going on in your destination of choice and help you avoid getting scammed by fraudulent agencies. Second, buy traveler’s insurance so that in the event you do need to cancel your trip for any reason your travel investment is protected. Third, keep an eye on the US Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs for any alerts that may be listed for the Bahamas prior to your departure. Finally, when booking your trip, make sure to stay in reputable resorts.

Additional ways you can keep yourself and your wedding party safe in the Bahamas are to stick to tourist friendly areas, avoid dark alleys, don’t travel alone (especially at night), know your route before heading out, don’t wear flashy jewelry and leave valuables at home. If you have any questions or concerns about your upcoming destination wedding in the Bahamas, don’t hesitate to call Elite Travel.
