Should I Book Group Activities for my Destination Wedding?

The short answer to this question is no. You’re main focus should be your wedding. You don’t have to be the director of the entire vacation for everyone that is attending. Everyone should be free to choose their own activities.

When you chose this destination, your friends and family had a big decision to make about whether or not to join you for your big day. The invitation was to join you at your wedding, not your entire honeymoon after the fact. Booking group activities in advance will make your guests feel obligated to spend time with you for more than your wedding, when they shouldn’t have to.

Keep in mind your guests have potentially spent hundreds or possibly even thousands of dollars to come to the destination you chose for your wedding. They agreed to come to the wedding, not spend an entire vacation with you.

Your guests’ preference for things to do may vary greatly from what you want to do. Another factor to consider is your guests might not be able to afford the additional activities you choose. Your idea of fun could be bungee jumping or cave tubing when all they want to do is relax on the beach.

Booking things as a group could save each individual participating in the activity some money, so feel free to tell your guests your itinerary. If they choose to join you that’s awesome, but don’t book your guests for anything without advance notice. Let them have time to consider the activity and don’t be offended if they opt out.

You’ll have plenty of time back at home to plan events with your friends and family, but while you are in this gorgeous destination (wherever it may be), just enjoy being there with your new spouse. After all, that is why you are here in the first place.
